What is the AI Guide?

This deliverable is a practitioner-oriented resource designed specifically to help primary school teachers leverage artificial intelligence to foster inclusive STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education. Developed collaboratively by Gruppo Pleiadi (Italy), Fundación Descubre (Spain), Universidad de Almería (Spain), and TRACES (France), the guide addresses the underrepresentation of children from diverse linguistic, cultural, socio-economic, and ability backgrounds in STEAM subjects.

The Core Philosophy: Accessibility by Design

The guide is deeply rooted in the project’s Experimental Logical Processing (ELP) methodology and its foundational concept of ‘warm cognition’. This approach positions a positive emotional experience and psychological safety as essential preconditions for effective learning.

A central finding of this publication is that AI tools—when used exclusively by teachers during the lesson preparation phase—can significantly reduce the time and expertise required to produce differentiated and accessible classroom materials. This allows educators to build inclusion into their lessons from the very beginning (accessibility by design), rather than adding compensatory measures as an afterthought.

An Ethical Framework for Educators

Because student safety and data privacy are paramount, the guide outlines strict ethical non-negotiables for using AI. It emphasizes that teachers must retain full professional agency, meaning no AI output should reach pupils without thorough review and validation for scientific accuracy, age-appropriateness, and cultural bias. Furthermore, the guide champions minimal screen time for pupils, ensuring that STEAM learning remains primarily physical, collaborative, and offline.
