The IN-STEAM project, in the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in Almeria

In celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11) and as part of the IN-STEAM project, the Sensociencia group will be carrying out activities in primary and secondary schools. These activities aim to engage students in scientific practices, help them identify and understand scientific elements in their surroundings, and recognize technological applications through the use of sensors and digital devices.

The initiative seeks to reduce the gender gap by highlighting the work of female researchers from the Sensociencia group and demonstrating—through hands-on activities—that all students are capable of doing science. It also encourages the participation of students who might not typically take an active role. In this way, the activity follows an inclusive approach, aligning with one of IN-STEAM’s key objectives.

The photos capture a session held on February 5 with 6- to 7-year-old students. The activity focused on exploring how babies develop in the womb, specifically investigating how they receive nutrients and breathe before birth… when they are surrounded by water!! Students were encouraged to formulate hypotheses, consider ways to test them, experiment with balloons and water, observe ultrasound images, and analyze their findings. They had a fantastic time!
