IN-STEAM Conference brings together educators and innovators in Verona (Italy) to shape a more inclusive future for education

The project is funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme and involves institutions in Italy, Spain and France

Educators, researchers and policy makers have come together for the IN-STEAM International Conference in Verona (Italy). ‘Reshaping Education Through Inclusivity and Innovation’ has been the claim of an open online event that has invited everyone to reflect on the future of learning in an increasingly diverse and digital world.

The Conference was organized within the framework of IN-STEAM (An INnovative pedagogical method for an INclusive STEAM education), a project funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program. The initiative will run for the next three years and involves institutions from Italy, Spain, and France.

The event has aimed to highlight how innovation and diversity can work hand in hand to improve the way we teach and learn, at a time when education systems face the challenge of adapting to new technologies, global transformations and the growing demand for equity and inclusion.

Throughout the Conference, speakers and participants have discussed how to create classrooms that celebrate differences, inspire curiosity and prepare young people for a rapidly changing world. The event will present innovative teaching experiences, new digital and hybrid learning environments, and collaborative projects that bridge the gap between science and art, technology and culture. By placing the arts alongside STEM subjects, IN-STEAM demonstrates that creativity is not a luxury in education but a vital force that drives innovation, critical thinking and empathy.

The conference has also featured the outcomes of the IN-STEAM project’s European collaboration, showcasing concrete examples of how inclusive pedagogies can be applied in schools and how digital tools can enhance participation and engagement. Above all, the event seeks to spark dialogue and inspire educators to rethink what inclusion really means in the 21st century.

IN-STEAM Project

The IN-STEAM project is framed within STEAM education, an educational approach that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving through interdisciplinary learning experiences. In this sense, the project is working on developing a different model of science education, one that is accessible to all students and integrates social inclusion as a cross-cutting theme.

The consortium, coordinated by Pleiadi (Italy), is composed of Fundación Descubre (Spain), Traces (France), the Sensociencia team from the University of Almeria (Spain) and the Istituto Comprensivo di Montecchia di Crosara e San Giovanni Ilarione (Italy).

The first objective of IN-STEAM is to achieve an inclusive and accessible STEAM education by designing an innovative and inclusive pedagogical method, as well as accessible and attractive experimental activities that rely on generative Artificial Intelligence for their development and implementation.

The project ‘An INnovative Pedagogical Method for INclusive STEAM Education’ (IN-STEAM) is funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, with Grant Agreement number 2024-1-IT02-KA220-SCH-000257719.
