STEAM: The New Way of Teaching and Learning

The course ‘STEAM: The New Way of Teaching and Learning’ is designed to enhance the STEAM curriculum by introducing innovative activities that engage students and promote active learning. Participants will explore a wide range of teaching resources and techniques to enrich their classroom environments while developing the skills needed to inspire and motivate students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education.

The course, organized by Idevelop, emphasizes integrating local communities and organizations into the STEAM learning experience, fostering collaboration and real-world connections that make lessons more impactful and relevant.

Ideal for educators already teaching STEAM subjects, this course will help them further enhance their lessons with creative approaches and fresh ideas. It is also well-suited for beginners looking to implement STEAM education in their schools, providing adaptable strategies and practical insights for successfully launching a STEAM curriculum.

Learning objectives

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

– Improve the perspectives and development opportunities of each student.

– Give possibility to attract students more by presenting topic in a more interesting and appealing way.

– Increase motivation for professional development.

– Reach even the most demanding students in an easier way.

– Manage feelings and conflicts by focusing on solutions.

– Cooperate with teachers as well as with students and parents.

– Promote group work and long-term projects to provoke changes which will allow to take off unnecessary burden off the shoulders of the educational staff and exert greater impact on the learning process and more satisfying and stimulating climate of coexistence in the school context.

Methodology & assessment

The motto of this course is “Learning by Doing”.

The course will make a tour through all the fields forming STEAM education and we will develop several multidisciplinary projects in relation to specific fields.

At the end of the course, participants will have created their own STEAM project based on a curricular subject and using the necessary programming tools and/or game

Materials, digital tools & other learning resources

The course “STEAM: The New Way of Teaching and Learning” makes use of a variety of specialized tools, materials, and resources to help participants integrate STEAM concepts into education effectively. Key resources include programming environments like Scratch Jr and mBlock, which are used to teach block-based coding and introduce foundational programming concepts. Participants engage with floor robots and the mBot educational robot, which facilitate hands-on learning in robotics, programming, and engineering through activities such as robot construction, hybrid programming, and controlling movements, lights, and sounds.

The course also leverages offline activities to build logical thinking and computational skills, as well as visual aids like maps for designing interactive programming challenges. By incorporating practical examples of STEAM projects, including those with a focus on music, participants are inspired to design their own projects and lessons. The tools and activities are carefully selected to build skills in collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, ensuring that participants can apply these innovative methodologies in their classrooms.

Certification details

The participants will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course including their full name, project information, duration of the course (25 hours) and location of the course, according to the Erasmus+ standards.
